Drs. John and Debra Hammerer graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 1982. John practiced optometry in the U.S. Army for the following seven years, first in South Carolina and then in Massachusetts, with Debra starting her own practice before the birth of their first child. In 1989, after a lengthy statewide search, they chose Coxsackie as the best fit to raise their family and establish the community based practice they always wanted.
